Drink Measurements

When mixing cocktails, it is important to use the exact amount for each ingredient as indicated in the original recipe. Not using exact ingredient amounts is the easiest way to ruin the taste of a drink.

Using the tools and the table below you can ensure that the drinks will taste exactly as they are meant to taste.

Bar Measure
This tools is usually made of stainless steel with a 1-ounce cup at one end, called a pony, and a 1½ to 2 ounce measure at the other end, called a jigger. Alternatively you can use a standard shot glass with markings on it. If you do not have either measure, use a standard set of kitchen measuring spoons — 3 teaspoons, or 1 tablespoon, equal ½ ounce, 4 teaspoons equal ¾ ounce, and 2 tablespoons equal 1 ounce.

The tables below should help you determine quantities of each ingredient when mixing cocktails.
